home internet connectivity - may 12, 2020
we have home internet service with toast.net.
- Service Plan: DSL-2 - Home 6 Mb - $37.95/month
this afternoon, i contacted toast.net via a web form on their website. excerpts from my message:
We would like to upgrade our service, possibly to the 25 Mbps/$54.95 a month plan. I would like to know if that's possible, and what would be involved with upgrading.
toast.net plans for home:
the email response from toast.net:
Your address qualifies for the 25Mbps plan. We can upgrade you to that speed. You will need an onsite technician to complete the upgrade and it will take 5 to 7 business days. Please let us know if that is ok for you.
i ran the following speed tests around 5:45 p.m. from my lenovo ubuntu linux laptop.
- download speed: 6.6 Mbps
- upload speed: 2.0 Mbps
- download: 9.57 Mbps, which seems oddly high
- upload: 1.3 Mbps
- download: 6.84 Mbps
- upload: 0.24 Mbps, which seems oddly low
- latency: 33 ms
We have no problem streaming video over our Roku TV.
For work, Deb has had problems with video conferencing, which I assume would be due to inefficient upload speeds.
