Notes - October 2019

Wed, Oct 2

In the mid-evening, I picked Deb up from the Detroit airport.

Thu, Oct 3

Watched Dominic while Rhonda took Gabs to speech therapy class.

Sat, Oct 5

I enjoyed an all-day birdwatching outing along the lakeshore, visiting multiple areas:

I also visited the following buildings:

I saw a mix of Neo-tropical and short-distant migrants. The weather was great. I arrived at Metzger at 8:40 a.m., and I left MBSP at 5:05 p.m.

Sun, Oct 6

I helped Brad watch the kids in the afternoon.

Mon, Oct 7

I took Deb to the Detroit airport. She flew to New York City for work reasons. She stayed at hotel, located in the new World Trade Center building.

Tue, Oct 8

I birdwatched for an hour at Rossford Island View Park, mainly for nostalgia reasons. I saw migrating birds, of course.

I started birdwatching in the fall of 1999. I used to run at RIVP occasionally back in the early and mid 1990s. In October 1999, I visited RIVP to see if any migrating birds could be found. RIVP became my "local patch" for birdwatching, since it was a good spot for fall and spring migrating birds.

Wed, Oct 9

In the evening, I picked Deb up from the Detroit airport.

Fri, Oct 11 - Sun, Oct 13

Busy weekend.

Mon, Oct 14

Deb and I went for dinner. It was the first time that only Deb and I went out together in a good while. We visited Whiskey and the Wolf, located near Secor and Alexis.

I drank a couple Old Fashioneds. We started with the charred broccoli appetizer. I ate the Impossible Burger with fries.

We arrived at 7:25 p.m. and we left at approx 9:30 p.m. A nice evening. Enjoyed the 90s alternative music, played over the sound system.

Tue, Oct 15

I helped out watching the grandkids in the afternoon and evening.

Wed, Oct 16

CP's birthday.

Deb and I went visited CP in the mid-afternoon. Rhonda was at CP's too. We all went to Gust Pumpkin farm, located southeast of Blissfield, Michigan.

Then we ate dinner at the Public House, located in downtown Monroe, MI. Brad joined us for dinner.

Then we went back to CP and Brad's house for a while.

Thu, Oct 17

I visited nearby Ottawa Park (six-minute drive) for about 45 minutes. I saw some migrating songbirds.

Sat, Oct 19

Helped watch the grandkids in the afternoon.

Deb and I enjoyed food and drink with Chris R at the Mason Jar from around 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Deb, Brent, and I enjoyed food and drink at Mancy's Italian and Backyard Barbecue from approx 9:15 p.m to 12:45 a.m. on Sun, Oct 20

Sun, Oct 20

Left home around 9:15 a.m., and I returned at 4:20 p.m. I went birdwatching along the lakeshore, visiting the Magee Marsh boardwalk, the long trail around the Magee Marsh Sportsmen's Center, the small woodlot at the old ONWR parking lot, and out a ways on one of the dikes at ONWR.

Then in late afternoon and early evening, I was at CP and Brad's. Deb arrived around Noon. We played with the kids and celebrated Brad's birthday, which occurred the day before.

Fri, Oct 25 thru Sun, Oct 27

Spent the weekend at CP and Brad's house, caring for Gabbie while CP and Brad went away for a weekend to attend a wedding.

Thu, Oct 31

(I did another poor job keeping notes for the month.)

Deb, Brent, and I spent about 2.5 hours at Whiskey and the Wolf for good food, beverages, and conversation. Kim took her niece trick-or-treating.

The weather was ugly at about 5:30 p.m. when Brent and I left for W&W. Deb joined us later. Temps were in the 40s. The winds were strong. And light rain fell sideways.

When we left W&W shortly after 9:00 p.m., wet snow mixed in with the falling rain. That was my first snow sighting of the season. Temps had dropped to the upper 30s. No snow accumulated.
