9:47 p.m.

Barney and I walked from 8:20 p.m. to 8:43 p.m. The snow fell hard, at least moderate-to-heavy intensity at the start of our walk. It had been snowing at least moderate intensity for an hour or more. It poured from 8:00 to 8:30 p.m. Then during our walk, the snow intensity decreased to light to moderate. Then it started snowing hard for only a brief moment. I was going to continue our walk for another 15 minutes, but I heard the precip hitting the hardwood trees. The snow changed to freezing rain and sleet. I decided to end our walk. By 8:43 p.m., we had about two inches of total snow accumulation. The snow began after 6:00 p.m. and maybe after 6:30 p.m. During our walk, the winds were brisk at times from the east quadrant.

Feb 5th 2020 Here is a look at the latest thinking concerning the upcoming winter storm. We will have more info on snow amounts soon. In the meantime, here you can see the areas of main concern for winter weather. The mountains of southeastern Wyoming could see in excess of 5 feet of snow from late tonight through Saturday afternoon. Other areas including Cheyenne and Laramie will need to watch the weather very closely as some weather models are showing heavier snow amounts developing. There is some uncertainty in the snowfall amounts for these areas and changes will likely be needed. Pay attention! Travel will likely be severely impacted this weekend across Carbon county where heavy snow and blowing snow are likely. If you plan on traveling it is advised that you pay very close attention to the weather. You can see more details at Weather.gov/cys

md 0082 concerning heavy snow for northern indiana into southern michigan and far northwest ohio

mesoscale discussion 0082
nws storm prediction center norman ok
0507 pm cst wed feb 05 2020

areas affected...northern indiana into southern michigan and far
northwest ohio

concerning...heavy snow

valid 052307z - 060130z

summary...moderate to occasionally heavy snow is expected through
the evening.

discussion...isentropic ascent has led to a broad area of light to
moderate snow across much of the southern great lakes. while
snowfall rates should remain in the half inch per hour range across
most of the region, deep frontogenesis in the 850 to 500 mb layer
will lead to some banding and localized heavier snowfall rates
approaching 1 inch per hour. composite reflectivity indicates the
heaviest band may be starting to develop from rensselaer, in
northeastward through goshen and toward jackson, michigan. the
heavier snow rates will be limited due to the short duration of
snow, but these rates could persist for 1 to 2 hours across the
aforementioned region.

area forecast discussion
national weather service cleveland oh
936 am est wed feb 5 2020

.synopsis...
high pressure across the central great lakes will shift to new
england today. low pressure from the lower mississippi valley
will move to the upper ohio valley by midday thursday. a trough
will linger across the eastern great lakes through friday.

&&

.near term /through thursday/...
kept chance for flurries in our southeast area over the next
hour. other than that, weather should be dry until this evening
with occasional breaks in the clouds possible across the
eastern half of the area. temperatures will remain steady in the
low 30s throughout the day.

no real changes with this early morning update. flurries and
maybe a spot of freezing drizzle, but all will be quiet for the
daytime today. previous discussion follows.

as for the current radar returns, observations have been scant
and have been light snow/flurries. it is possible there may be
some questionable precip type, but the occurrence would be brief
with no impact expected. these flurries will be confined to the
early morning. dry air and a re-enforcement of sub- freezing
temperatures will continue to filter southward from the high
positioned to our north across the central great lakes. this
will bring a short period of fair weather for the daylight hours
and temperatures that will not rise more than a couple of
degrees.

this high will slide east this afternoon and low pressure
will be making its way to the tn valley and the upper ohio
valley by midday thursday. this system will bring a round of
mixed precipitation tonight into thursday morning. have issued a
winter weather advisory for the mixed precipitation. snow on
the northern edge of the precipitation shield could add up to a
couple/few inches with a glaze of ice to follow. a corridor
from marion to wooster could see a tenth or so of ice and less
than an inch of snow. a longer period of rain is possible from
mount vernon to youngstown cutting back on snow and ice
accumulations more so.

warm nose pushes north across our northern tier of counties
leaving possibly only toledo/far northwest oh cold enough for
all snow with this system. have mentioned the chance for mixed
precipitation there though to account for uncertainty. with the
track of the surface low across western pa, for the most part
surface winds will remain northeast to east and tend to want to
hold temperatures back. even so, we are not overly cold
starting out so the transition to all rain, and therefore
temperatures above freezing, may very well make it from east-
central oh to the i-71 corridor and across nw pa thursday. the
bulk of the precipitation is expected wednesday night and
thursday morning with a tapering thursday afternoon along with
the arrival of some drying aloft from the west- southwest.
therefore have continued the mention of freezing rain (or
drizzle) into the afternoon across the west, but with lower
probability of occurrence.

&&

.short term /thursday night through saturday night/...
during thursday night, a longwave trough will begin
overspreading the eastern united states from the west, while an
embedded shortwave trough begins overspreading our cwa. at the
surface, the attendant low should deepen and track from the
upper ohio valley to near northeast pa. as cold air advection
occurs on the backside of the surface low, any lingering rain
should change to snow from northwest to southeast as cold air
deepens. a period of freezing rain may occur as rain changes to
snow since some model sounding data indicate there could be a
lack of ice nucleation in the precip- producing cloud layer for
a time. any ice accumulations look to be a trace to several
hundredths of an inch, while snow accumulations should be an
inch or less. low temperatures should reach the mid to upper
20`s.

on friday, the longwave trough and embedded shortwave
disturbances settle over the eastern united states, including
our cwa. the attendant surface low deepens further and should
move from near northeast pa to near the maine coast.
simultaneously, this low will extend a surface trough over the
eastern great lakes and vicinity, including our region.
additional periods of primarily light snow should occur.
however, as a northwesterly low-level flow of colder air becomes
established over lake erie, steadier lake enhanced snows should
target the primary and perhaps secondary snowbelts, especially
by the afternoon. friday afternoon highs should reach the upper
20s to lower 30s.

the longwave trough and embedded shortwave disturbances remain
entrenched over the eastern united states friday night into
saturday. however, at the surface, the trough over the eastern
great lakes and vicinity friday night will likely be replaced by
a high pressure ridge building from the northwest and west on
saturday. lake enhanced snows should transition to pure lake
effect snows and mainly affect the primary snowbelt as the low-
level flow of cold air backs from northwesterly to westerly
friday night. very little or no snow shower activity is expected
elsewhere. during the day on saturday, lingering and weakening
lake snows across the primary snowbelt should end around midday
as a lowering subsidence inversion, increasing low-level
vertical shear, and decreasing synoptic-scale moisture cause
lake-induced instability to wane. however, a few snow and/or
rain showers may affect areas near and south of a findlay to
canton line saturday afternoon, when a prominent shortwave
trough begins traversing the cwa from west to east. forecast
snowfall for the friday night through saturday time period is
around a half inch to one inch in most of northern oh, but 1 to
3 inches are expected in the primary and secondary snowbelt. in
northwest pa, snowfall totals should reach 2 to 4 inches. after
lows in the upper teens to mid 20s friday night, high
temperatures should reach mainly the lower to mid 30
s on
saturday.

saturday night, the aforementioned longwave trough and embedded
shortwave disturbance begin exiting our cwa to the east and a
subtle shortwave ridge builds from the west. at the surface,
high pressure persists over our region. mostly fair weather is
expected, but a few snow showers may linger along and especially
south of a findlay to canton line saturday evening. low
temperatures should reach the lower to mid 20`s.

&&

.long term /sunday through tuesday/...
sunday is expected to be dry region-wide as high pressure at
the surface and aloft affects our cwa. afternoon highs should
reach the mid to upper 30s. forecast confidence decreases
somewhat sunday night through tuesday as notable spread exists
in model solutions. in general, periods of precipitation are
possible sunday night through tuesday as zonal flow aloft and
embedded disturbances affect our area. however, there will
probably be dry periods that are difficult to pinpoint as of
now. at the surface, the pressure field fluctuates between
alternating weak troughs and ridges. precip should tend to fall
as snow during the cooler nighttime hours and as rain or a
rain/snow mix during daylight hours. temperatures moderate
during the period so that by tuesday, morning lows in the lower
to mid 30
s should be followed by afternoon highs mainly in the
lower to mid 40`s.

&&

.aviation /12z wednesday through sunday/...
a few flurries are skirting by early this morning with some
patches of mvfr ceilings with the northerly flow. this all
should clear/improve within a few hours this morning yielding
vfr conditions for the better part of today. conditions rapidly
lower this evening with precipitation. temperatures will be
critical tonight. snow at first and then a band of freezing
rain/sleet while surface temperatures are below freezing. only
the cak/yng may see a transition over to rain near or after 06z.
mfd/cle/eri will have to wait until after 12z thu. ifr
conditions will be widespread with the precipitation. northeast
winds will remain through the period, with eastern terminals
becoming more easterly after 00z thu.

.outlook...non-vfr with snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain
into thursday. mixed precipitation transitions to all snow for
thursday night. non- vfr for much of the time through saturday.

&&

.marine...
high pressure affects lake erie today as it moves from the
upper midwest to near the gulf of maine. low pressure develops
across the lower mississippi valley by this evening and then
deepens as it reaches the upper ohio valley by thursday evening.
with this pattern, northeasterly winds near 15 knots over lake
erie should ease to around 10 knots by midday today. thus, the
small craft advisory from the islands to geneva-on-the-lake
should be allowed to expire by noon today as waves subside to
less than 4 feet. later this afternoon and evening,
northeasterly winds should increase to near 17 to 22 knots over
the lake and persist into early thursday morning. after daybreak
on thursday, these winds should back to northerly and ease to
around 10 knots by the afternoon. another small craft advisory
will likely be needed this evening into thursday, especially for
nearshore waters from the islands to conneaut. during thursday
afternoon and evening, northerly winds around 10 knots should
persist as waves subside to 2 feet or less by the end of the
day.

as the aforementioned low moves farther northeast to the
canadian maritimes on friday, it will extend a trough across the
eastern great lakes. northerly to northwesterly winds of about
10 to 15 knots are expected on lake erie, while waves should
primarily be 1 to 3 feet. however, waves may reach 4 feet along
the southern shore of central lake erie and this area will have
to be monitored for a potential small craft advisory.

high pressure will return to lake erie on saturday into sunday.
winds trend light and variable saturday, while sunday`s winds
should trend southwesterly around 5 to 10 knots. waves should be
no higher than 1 to 3 feet this weekend.

Lessons Learned From The Iowa Caucuses, And Danger Signs Ahead
https://text.npr.org/s.php?sId=802883801

Douglas Jones, a computer scientist at the University of Iowa, was one of many who have warned for weeks that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to introduce a new technology at such a critical time — with the eyes of the nation on the first presidential voting of 2020.

The meltdown was extensive. A smartphone app purchased by the Iowa Democratic Party for precincts to use to report caucus votes didn't work as planned. A backup hotline system also failed, leaving party officials scrambling on Tuesday to answer questions and produce results, as candidates and the public tried to figure out what was going on.

Some suggestions:

Build something. A new workbench for your office. Fix up an old car. Build a pull-up bar in your garage. Use your hands, cut some wood and metal, and treat yourself to a new tool or two. Do this with every project and you will have a nice tool collection before you know it.

Learn to take pictures on a manual camera. You can do this with a modern automatic camera if it has a manual mode. Learn about ISO, f-stop, and shutter speed and the interplay of those three variables. There's a fantastic multi-part tutorial on Reddit that can help you learn these things. I don't have the link handy but you can Google for it.

Set a goal of cooking for yourself at least two nights a week and eating leftovers two nights a week. Buy a binder and some clear inserts and start to put together your own book of favorite recipes.

Take a nightly walk.

Listen to classical music. This one didn't come to me until my 40s but I finally realized: there's a reason that this music has been popular for 300 years. Opera is great, too. Listen to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro". Download the KUSC app and listen to the amazing Metropolitan Opera broadcast every Saturday morning at 10 AM Pacific.

Trump owns the media and the democrats. This is proof.

https://www.memeorandum.com/200205/p70#a200205p70

Journalists and opposing politicians cannot control their emotions and they become and act like Trump. They are no different than Trump. They exist on the flip side of the same coin as Trump.

Their rage is probably hurting their health, and it's doing nothing to inform nor help the country.

Meanwhile, Iowa dems fail at what should be a simple process.

And ...

"The DNC can't steal the election from Bernie Sanders despite the Iowa chaos"

Bernie and Pete are probably the two best options to win the presidential election in November.

"Google says Chrome's ad blocker will expand to target disruptive video ads in August, including long pre-roll ads, mid-roll ads, and over-lays ads on video "

https://9to5google.com/2020/02/05/chrome-video-ad-blocker/

These video ad standards are based on research from 45,000 consumers worldwide, and identified three experiences that “people find to be particularly disruptive on video content that is less than 8 minutes long.” This guidance for short-form video applies to desktop, mobile web, and apps.

Long, non-skippable pre-roll ads or groups of ads longer than 31 seconds that appear before a video and that cannot be skipped within the first 5 seconds.

Mid-roll ads of any duration that appear in the middle of a video, interrupting the user’s experience.

Image or text ads that appear on top of a playing video and are in the middle 1/3 of the video player window or cover more than 20 percent of the video content.

The Coalition for Better Ads group has mandated that websites stop showing these ads over the next four months, or risk losing advertising completely. Chrome enforcement begins August 5, 2020, and will see the browser “stop showing all ads on sites in any country that repeatedly show these disruptive ads.”

A corporate solution to the corporatification of the web, and the solution comes from the maker of the most popular web rendering engine, the most popular search engine, one of the most popular email services, etc.

And Google is doing this for the benefit of users. How altruistic of them.

This is just one of many reasons to use StevenBlack's Hosts 1 list to block this type of behavior. While it doesn't currently block link.wacom.com, it would have prevented the subsequent requests google analytics. It works even better when paired with a PiHole 2 to protect all devices on the network.
