I deactivated my little-used test Twitter account
created Aug 26, 2019
Two or three years ago, I enabled my web-based static site generator to support the IndieWeb.org's cross-site commenting feature called Webmention. My app, called Wren, supports sending and receiving Webmentions.
I also added the ability to support brid.gy, which allowed me to syndicate my sawv.org web posts to Twitter. And if any interactions (likes, replies, whatever) occurred at Twitter on those posts, then those interactions got backfed to my sawv.org site via brid.gy and the Webmention. Twitter users could indirectly post comments to my website, thanks to the IndieWeb concepts.
It's a slick idea for those who have a desire to use Twitter from their personal websites. I have only done this for testing. One of my posts back in 2017 did receive a couple Twitter interactions that appeared at sawv.org. I get the concept.
I have seen other IndieWeb users receive numerous "comments" on posts stored on their websites, but all of the comments came from Twitter via brid.gy, or the comments came from other personal websites that supported the Webmention protocol.
I will continue to support Webmentions, which will permit people to post their replies on their own websites, and those replies can appear on my site. But I have no interest in using Twitter, the cesspool of the internet, as a discussion tool.
Listed below are my 35 tweets, posted at my jr_sawv test Twitter account that I created in 2017. I deactivated that account today, Aug 26, 2019. If I want to use another service, I can reuse micro.blog/sawv, which supports multiple IndieWeb and old open web (RSS) concepts.
In my opinion, micro.blog is the best silo, social networking/media service to use because it can work with personal websites. I connect my micro.blog account to my RSS or JSON feeds that I create at sawv.org, and my sawv.org posts will appear at my micro.blog account. That's nothing new. I could do that with Twitter and Facebook and other services 10-plus years ago.
But the difference with micro.blog is that when interactions occur at micro.blog on my content that got syndicated to micro.blog, then those interactions get posted to sawv.org as Webmentions. brid.gy is unnecessary as a middle layer because micro.blog supports sending Webmentions.
Another plus for micro.blog is that it does not display the narcissistic stats that pollute other silos. And micro.blog does not use an algorithm to determine what content to display.
I axed my Facebook account in the summer of 2016.
I use Flickr to store photos that I can embed into other posts. I pay for two Flickr pro accounts. If it was possible to merge the accounts and not break the URLs to images, then I would do that.
I still have my old Instagram account that I used for about a year, across 2014 and 2015. I need to figure out how to download all my Instagram photos and videos for physical storage before deleting/deactivating the account.
I have had a user account with Ravelry, since 2013. It's a community site, focused on fiber arts and crafts. Many knitting and crochet designers sell their patterns on Ravelry. Many businesses, such as yarn stores, use Ravelry. I have purchased patterns and downloaded free patterns through Ravelry. Whenever I encounter a fiber-related artist, crafter, miller, or farmer, the most often mentioned community is Ravelry, even though online communities exist elsewhere.
For my test Twitter account, this was the photo that I used for my profile. It's a photo of our dog Barney with his winter, long-hair look.

It's unfortunate that one of the world's worst scourges, Twitter, still exists. It's disturbing that journalists use Twitter.
