This afternoon, I saw an adult AMRO foraging near our backdoor.

Pleasant weather.

7:54 a.m.

Another comfy-cool morning. The upstairs bedroom window fan thermometer registered 61 degrees at 7:30 a.m.

I did not hear cicada song last night. I heard the one sing on Sunday evening. But I also have not taken walks in the evening to listen for cicadas. Maybe this evening.

We still have a few robins around our home, both adults and fledglings. Last Wednesday, I saw an adult AMRO sun itself in the morning and in the late afternoon, an adult female AMRO engaged in anting for over 30 minutes. It nabbed ants in the usual ant area in our backyard. An adult male AMRO would sneak in and tried to ant too, but the female repeatedly chased the male away by scurrying along the ground and not fly-chasing. The female would resume anting while the male foraged or pretended to be busy before slowly sneaking back into the ant area and getting chased again.

Very little robin song exists now. I hear a couple sing in the morning. One robin sang briefly a couple minutes ago.

Hostas are blooming. Sadly, we have no Black-eyed Susans in our yard. They would have started blooming last month. No Tall Coreopsis is tall enough to bloom this month as usual. The rabbit ate the coreopsis back in May. New coreopsis growth followed, but it may never get tall enough to produce blooms. The middle oval Sawtooth Sunflower plants should bloom later this month.

An Eastern Wood Pee-wee has been singing over our backyard during the past 30 minutes. Over the past week, I have occasionally heard the EAWP sing around or near our home.

The insect song is still lacking. I have not heard any crickets nor katydids. The night time insect song has not begun yet. Sadly, the robin song and the robin activity will end this month, but the bird song will be replaced this month by insect song that will continue through most of October. Usually, the cicada song ends in mid-October, but katydid song can continue into November.

I have not seen any AMRO in our backyard this morning. I saw a robin or two yesterday in our backyard.
