11:40 p.m.

This evening, we went out with our neighbors Kim and Brent. We started at the Bellwether, which is owned by the Toledo Spirits distillery and located in an old building along Summit Street, about a half mile north of Cherry Street. I ate roasted garbanzo beans, and I drank two drinks that used their East Side Gin: East Side Skinny and the Detroit Athletic Club. The latter tasted fantastic.

Next, we stopped at Chevy's Place, located near the Warehouse District in downtown Toledo. It was my first visit to Chevy's Place, which plays country music. They had their one garage-style door raised. The weather outside at night was comfortable with temps in the 80s. People sat outside. We sat inside. I drank two gin and tonic's made with Tanqueray gin.

We arrived home around 11:30 p.m.

6:19 p.m.

Temps in the mid-90s around 6pm. !!! Dew points from the upper 60s to the low 70s. And only a light wind.

It's a rugged day. I still have not installed our two small window AC units. The large amount of shade makes it tolerable. The living room thermostat reports 84 degrees. It's 89 degrees in our upstairs bedroom, but that will cool a few degrees by sleepy time. Those temps are not terrible, in my opinion.

Sunday's high forecast still remains in the low 80s. No 90-degree days are forecast after today. Tomorrow's high temp is forecast to be in the upper 80s, which will feel chilly compared to today. We'll have to break out the jumper sweaters for Sunday and Monday.

Report: Brazilian federal police have requested a probe into the finances of The Intercept's Glenn Greenwald after he reported leaks from a corruption inquiry

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/03/brazil-glenn-greenwald-investigation-outcry-bar-association-journalists

that's an obvious "war on the media" occurring in brazil.

reactions attached to the mediagazer link:

@theintercept: The Intercept is both alarmed and dismayed at recent unconfirmed reports that Brazil's Federal Police, under the command of Justice Minister Sérgio Moro, has asked for an investigation into the personal finances of The Intercept's co-founding editor Glenn Greenwald.
Jos Miguel Vivanco / @jmvivancohrw: It would be highly suspicious if Brazilian authorities launched an investigation into @ggreenwald 's “financial activities” just weeks after he published his stories about Justice Minister Moro. No journalists should face retaliation for their work. https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Stefania Maurizi / @smaurizi: I stand in solidarity with @ggreenwald https://twitter.com/...
Emma Vigeland / @emmavigeland: This is a blatant attempt to criminalize journalism. Brazil's far-right won't stop until they stifle all dissent, as @theintercept's brave journalism has so importantly revealed. I stand with @ggreenwald and the rest of Brazil's adversarial reporters. https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Jordan / @jordanuhl: This is a blatant attempt by Brazilian officials to intimidate—or worse—@ggreenwald for his reporting https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Tennys Sandgren / @tennyssandgren: The state shall prove that it's innocent of credible corruption claims by going after a journalist 🤔
Chris Arnade / @chris_arnade: I don't care what you think about Glenn. He is doing amazing work in Brazil and that comes with a huge risk to him and his family. https://twitter.com/...
Glenn Greenwald / @ggreenwald: This is what repressive authoritarianism looks like https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
@freedomofpress: The Brazilian government should immediately halt investigations into @ggreenwald and @TheInterceptBr's reporting on official corruption. Such intimidation tactics are a brazen attack on press freedom. https://freedom.press/...
@torproject: This investigation needs to stop immediately. “Criminally investigating journalist Glenn Greenwald for reporting on corruption within the Bolsonaro government is a shocking violation of his rights as a reporter.” https://freedom.press/... #Brazil #pressfreedom
Freedom of the Press Foundation: The Brazilian government should immediately halt investigations into Glenn Greenwald …

Public broadcast companies in the UK and Europe should join forces and resources to create a public social media platform to distribute their journalistic work

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jul/02/europe-band-together-rival-facebook

Hossein Derakhshan / @h0d3r: As José van Dijck writes, squeezed between two platform ecosystems of China and the US, it is “crucial for Europe to develop an encompassing strategy with regard to platform societies - both in economic market terms and in ideological-political terms”. https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Rasmus Kleis Nielsen / @rasmus_kleis: Sorry @h0d3r but this idea - of pan-European public service social media platform - is terrible. It would put PSM w/limited resources up against ruthlessly user-focused very successful large incumbents. And require level of collaboration they struggle to realize even internally https://twitter.com/...
Mustapha Hamoui / @beirutspring: Europeans don't seem to learn. It's the profit motive, not the public good, that generates these companies. Governments should do what governments do best: Build world class infrastructure (technical and regulatory). Let greedy entrepreneurs do the rest. https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Hossein Derakhshan / @h0d3r: European internet is practically turning into a separate legal sphere from the US one. Now it is time to for an ideological separation. #GDPR #journalism #socialmedia https://www.theguardian.com/ ...
Frank Pasquale / @frankpasquale: “The advantage of this platform over Facebook is that its algorithms would be not only transparent, but designed to accommodate values...such as diversity, solidarity and privacy, while flexible enough to privilege” subsidiarity. http://www.theguardian.com/...
@vakibs: What is India doing? Is there any awareness of data sovereignty in India ? India is one of the largest pools of internet users in the world, but their data is not physically stored in India and Indian jurisdiction cannot apply on data transcending its borders. https://twitter.com/...
Imogen Serwotka / @imogenserwotka: ‘Media outlets have never lost so much control over the distribution of their content,’ @h0d3r https://www.theguardian.com/ ...

media outlets lost so much control over the distribution of their content because they CHOSE to cede control. the media has made horrendous choices every year since 1995. media orgs CHOSE to enslave themselves to big tech because increasingly, users spent more time on the silos. the media have their own websites.

Despite diversity in presidential candidates, punditry still belongs to guys who give us mediocre analysis, grotesque speech on women, and cluelessness on race

https://www.thecut.com/2019/07/politics-is-changing-why-arent-the-pundits-who-cover-it.html

@timesupnow: It's past time that the journalists covering presidential candidates look more like the people who will be voting for them. https://www.thecut.com/... https://twitter.com/...
Carlos Maza / @gaywonk: Media punditry is dominated by old white guys who've run out of interesting things to say. We should be making room for new voices, not recycling the milquetoast bullshit of the 90s: https://www.thecut.com/...
Mary Annase Heglar / @maryheglar: Agree w/ pretty much everything in @rtraister's fantastic piece, except the notion that Dem. pundits think “moderate white men in diners” reflect the electorate. I think they know better, but they assume the rest of us will fall in line and wait in line. https://www.thecut.com/...
Associated Press: Harris says busing should be considered, not mandated
@jodikantor: Wanted, for at least two prez cycles: a show or podcast that debates the issues and candidates from a fully female POV https://www.thecut.com/...
Jeremy Barr / @jeremymbarr: One of the best critiques of cable news punditry I've read this cycle: https://www.thecut.com/...
Brooke Binkowski / @brooklynmarie: God, yes, please. I'm so tired of these boring hacks who have been farting out the same tired old shit for the past forty years https://www.thecut.com/...
Missy Kurzweil / @missykurz: well, this is gold. pic.twitter.com/5PcStacQHg
@ronmwangaguhung: I have always thought that the people who make those decisions about who gets shows must think Donny Deutsch is SUCH the great storyteller over those weekends in the Hamptons — how can America NOT love this guy?
@ronmwangaguhung: Of the top of my head I can think of two dozen people in media smarter, more interesting than Donny Deutsch. These same basic bros just keep getting recycled ... #Media #Diversity
Waleed Shahid / @waleedshahid: Primary the pundit class. [by @rtraister] https://www.thecut.com/...
Julia Turner / @juliaturner: When is the Traister network launching https://www.thecut.com/...

Meredith Blake / @meredithblake: Even after #MeToo, “television coverage of the 2020 election is still being led by men who have sketchy histories around gender and power.” @rtraister, on point as always https://www.thecut.com/...
Steve Katz / @steve
katz: THANK YOU @rtraister for this. Message to the pundits: get out of the way. You do not know what you're talking about. Something new is headed our way. https://www.thecut.com/...
Sherrilyn Ifill / @sifill_ldf: The piece is so infuriatingly spot-on. ⁦@rtraister⁩, again. https://www.thecut.com/...
Clara Jeffery / @clarajeffery: 10,000x THIS https://twitter.com/...
Virginia Heffernan / @page88: For all those who found the Deutsch-Stephens-Matthews response to the debates almost as extraterrestrial as Trumpism, here's ⁦@rtraister⁩ on how & why those analysts are failing us. https://www.thecut.com/...
Carrie Brown / @brizzyc: “But we're also getting our first real taste of the punditry that will frame this next year and a half, and so far, it is the opposite of fresh, diverse, or forward-thinking.” https://www.thecut.com/...
Jay Rosen / @jayrosen_nyu: MSNBC's decision to give a weekend show to the past — sorry, I mean to Donny Deutsch — was particularly dumb.
Sperry Bird / @bostonjerry: These white male pundits who have been on TV talking about politics for the last 20 years love to say “Twitter doesn't represent the real America” when the reality is that THEY don't represent anything besides other rich & powerful white people.
David M. Perry / @lollardfish: All the same dudes who failed in 2016 are still covering politics for 2020. From @rtraister - https://www.thecut.com/...
Katie Sweeney / @k8iedid: “The disconnect between the candidates and how the candidates are being received by many in the political media also tells us something about how politics, remains much more susceptible to speedy alteration than institutional journalism.” @rtraister https://www.thecut.com/...
Tasneem Raja / @tasneemraja: “The disconnect between the candidates and how the candidates are being received by many in the political media also tells us something about how politics...remains much more susceptible to speedy alteration than institutional journalism.” https://www.thecut.com/...
@socalmom: What we need in 2020 are some new pundits. https://www.thecut.com/...
Sperry Bird / @bostonjerry: And in case you're wondering how wrong these old, white, male pundits are about what America actually looks like and thinks like in 2020, consider this: Not a single one of them thought Biden would take a major hit in the polls after the first debate. They were ALL wrong.
Neil King / @nkingofdc: This is a good piece. The TV political commentariat is tiresome and rickety. https://www.thecut.com/...
Jerry Saltz / @jerrysaltz: Amen! These guys just opine what other guys just like them have already opined. Useless. I have been in their green rooms and have yelled about this to them! “Politics Is Changing; Why Aren't the Pundits Who Cover It?” @rtraister @NYMag https://www.thecut.com/... via @thecut
Ben Mathis-Lilley / @benmathislilley: truly etherous, and a point I'm very irritated I didn't think to make myself https://www.thecut.com/...

Greta Van Susteren / @greta: Politics Is Changing; Why Aren't the Pundits Who Cover It? https://www.thecut.com/...
Sperry Bird / @bostonjerry: This is an important article about all the old, establishment, white, male pundits who are shaping coverage of the 2020 election and how they all have histories of being wrong, sexist, and acting like white men are the only people who matter in America. https://www.thecut.com/...
@thecut: “The dispiriting truth is that many of those tasked with interpreting our politics are — in addition to being extremely freaked out by the race they're covering — totally ill-equipped for the historic task ahead of them,” writes @RTraister https://www.thecut.com/...
Matt Pearce / @mattdpearce: “These guys are on some level unprepared for a universe in which others, people whose childhoods were shaped by the busing policies they were creating, might one day stand up and challenge them.” https://www.thecut.com/...
Dan Froomkin / @froomkin: Fabulous essay by @rtraister: “so many of the voices interpreting the events around us still belong to the guys who've been clumsily telling us what to think about politics for ages.” https://twitter.com/...
Jay Rosen / @jayrosen_nyu: “What's emerging is a view of a presidential commentariat that — in terms of both ideas and diversity — is embarrassingly outpaced by the candidates, many of whom appear smarter, more thoughtful, and to have a nimbler grasp of American history.” https://www.thecut.com/...

the media loves to talk a big game about diversity but they don't live it within their orgs.

and who and where are these pundits? with the internet (web and email), anyone can be a political pundit. anyone.

i'll have to read the article later, but i'm guessing the media whining about the media was referring to television. ???

TV is the worst form of media and information dissemination.
