11:57 p.m.

I took a digital thermometer outside, and it recorded 79 degrees while I stood on our back driveway. It's definitely cooler outside than inside the house. The upstairs fan registered 85 degrees before I placed it in the window and turned it on.

11:53 p.m.

I'm surprised that the temps are only in the 70s. We sat outside this evening for a few hours with our neighbors, from approx 8pm to 11:40 p.m., and tonight felt significantly warmer and/or more humid than last evening. Maybe it's warmer within the city.

4:11 p.m.

I worked outside in the backyard from approx 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., moving dirt form my former raised bed garden area where I might now install a patio. And I weeded areas in the backyard. Our backyard at this time of the day is shaded. This afternoon's weather has been breezy, which was nice. When I work in the yard in the summer, I wear wool socks, hiking boots, jeans, short-sleeved t-shirt, and a ball cap. This afternoon felt warm, but I did not feel hot, nor uncomfortable. The breeze and the shade helped to keep it manageable.

I'm surprised at the reported temps.

SPC showed a Marginal Risk for severe weather today for southern Michigan that includes Monroe and Lenawee counties but no Lucas County, which means no HWO issued by Cle NWS. This is the problem with the Toledo area being covered by three NWS offices. N. IN. NWS office, however, created an HWO for its coverage area that includes neighboring counties Fulton and Henry.

area forecast discussion
national weather service cleveland oh
746 am edt fri jun 28 2019

.synopsis...
weak low pressure will slide east across the upper great lakes
today. a weak cold front will slowly sag south across the area
saturday into sunday. a warm front will lift back north across the
area on monday.

&&

.near term /through saturday/...
forecast remains on track for today. showers and thunderstorms
over michigan expected to pass north of the area where the
better moisture transport is focused. otherwise just expecting
scattered cloud field this afternoon with an isolated shower or
two.

a broad upper level ridge
remains in place across the central and eastern united states.
water vapor imagery shows a shortwave over wisconsin that will
move across the upper great lakes today. convection has been
firing overnight where a weak low level jet has been focusing
moisture advection ahead of this wave. the ribbon of theta-e
advection will remain north of the area today and moisture will
be a limiting factor for thunderstorms. an isolated shower or
thunderstorm may fire today, mainly along the lake breeze but
this activity may be too shallow to even get thunder.
temperatures will be similar to yesterday in the mid 80s and low
90s. remnant energy from the passing wave along with a weak
cold front will settle south towards the area tonight and could
trigger a few thunderstorms along the lakeshore, although better
coverage is expected to be in the east where the better
moisture is. these showers will tend to decrease in coverage as
they sink south overnight but are expected to lay out a boundary
across the area for saturday. as we destabilize on saturday,
scattered thunderstorms will develop along this boundary which
will likely extend from near toledo, southeast towards mansfield
and canton. temperatures will drop back 3-5 degrees given the
coverage of clouds and thunderstorms, but dewpoints will be up
and muggy conditions can be expected.

&&

.short term /saturday night through monday/...
our period begins with a positively tilted upper level trough over
eastern canada with the vorticity max located just south of the
james bay saturday night. this upper level trough is expected to
dive south through the northeast conus, with northwest flow setting
up over our area for an extended period of time. down at the
surface, the resultant surface low pressure system will be located
over maine and moving off to the east. very weak surface high
pressure will be in place over the midwest and will meander its way
south, developing more into a ridge from the midwest to the gulf of
mexico by monday night.

as far as precipitation chances go, there really isnt a significant
trough to support widespread precipitation through the short term
period. models depict several shortwave troughs moving through the
northwest flow through our general area, though there is a great
deal of variance in the strength, timing and location of these
shortwave troughs, which isn
t all that surprising. these situations
are highly unpredictable in the long term and exact location of
precipitation during this period will heavily depend on mesoscale
features, which aren`t resolved well in long range models. models
build in a lot of instability for monday, particularly the gfs.
looks like a downburst type of day with isolated strong wind gusts
and hail if thunderstorms do develop.

there will be enough of a pressure gradient to have a predominantly
northwesterly flow at the surface on sunday, resulting in cooler
temperatures downstream the lake. expect high temperatures in the
mid-upper 70s in far ne ohio and nw pennsylvania while temperatures
in the low-mid 80s everywhere else. flow will be a bit weaker on
monday and more out of the west as the surface low moves off to the
east , allowing temperatures to warm up a bit more on monday.
everybody should reach at least 80 on monday with some locations,
particularly western areas such as toledo, findlay, etc., pushing
90. it will be very humid on monday as well, with dew points
exceeding 70 in many locations. we will be close to heat advisory
criteria on monday, which is something to monitor as we get within a
couple days.&&

.long term /monday night through thursday/...
once we get into the long term period, the forecast becomes a little
more muddied with short wave troughs becoming the defining features
in initiation for thunderstorms. with moisture remaining high
through the week, chances of thunderstorms will remain in the
forecast until we can better capture those features that will
initiate the storms. high temperatures will generally be in the 80s
with dew points in the upper 60s.

&&

.aviation /12z friday through tuesday/...
vfr conditions expected for most of the taf period. there will
be an isolated chance of precipitation this afternoon, mainly
near the lake breeze. otherwise scattered showers and possibly a
thunderstorms may approach eri after 08z. southwest winds of
5-10 knots friday afternoon. lake breezes with a wind shift to
the west northwest are likely at eri(16z) and cle(18z).

outlook...non-vfr possible with isolated to scattered
thunderstorms that develop saturday through tuesday.

&&

.marine...
a weak frontal boundary currently over northern ohio will lift north
as a warm front today. no significant pressure systems will move
across the region so winds should not exceed 15 knots at any time
through the given forecast period. strongest winds may be the
onshore flow that develops in the nearshore waters when the lake
breeze develops during the day.

&&

.cle watches/warnings/advisories...
oh...none.
pa...none.
marine...none.
