9:40 p.m.

Excellent summer evening. Comfy-warm but not hot. Low-ish humidity. Pleasant evening. We were at Twin Peaks from approx 6pm to 9pm with our neighbors Kim and Brent, eating and enjoying beverages. At Twin Peaks, the walls are mostly made up of windowed, garage-style doors, and the doors were raised. We sat by a window-door, enjoying the evening air.

This evening while with Barney out front around 9:30 p.m., I saw several lightning bugs and a bat flying around. Both were first sightings for me this summer. I reckon the lightning bugs were probably present a few days ago, but I didn't think to go out and look for them. Then again, today was one of the warmest days of the entire year with temps reaching the upper 80s.

Still no cicada song around our home. I should walk the neighborhood after 8pm this week. With the cool spring and early summer, the Scissor-grinder Cicadas might emerge a little later this year, like after July 4.

No EAWP sang around our home today. An EAWP has been hanging around our home, singing during the previous three mornings. I heard it Saturday morning when Gabbie and I were walking. I heard on Sunday morning and yesterday morning too. I saw it flycatch high up in an oak, located at the southwest corner of our backyard. It sang while flycatching. We had an EAWP hang around for a week back in mid-May or so. I'm guessing that this bird was moving around, searching for a mate, and it tried our location for three days and gave up and moved on.

areas affected...portions of southern wi...northern
il...northwestern in...and southwestern lower mi

concerning...severe potential...watch possible

valid 251810z - 252015z

probability of watch issuance...40 percent

summary...isolated severe thunderstorms with a damaging wind and
hail risk may develop this afternoon. severe thunderstorm watch
issuance is possible depending on radar trends.

discussion...a well-defined mcv that originated from convection
earlier this morning across ne will continue moving quickly eastward
around 40 kt along the wi/il border this afternoon. low-level
airmass recovery is still underway to the east of this mcv, with the
environment only weakly unstable. but, surface dewpoints have
generally increased into the upper 50s and lower 60s across
north-central/northeastern il. recent vwp profiles from kdvn and
klot show strong westerly flow around 35-50 kt in the 2-4 km agl
layer in association with the mcv. there is some concern that as
low-level lapse rates continue to steepen, some of these enhanced
winds aloft could reach the surface if a small thunderstorm complex
can develop. radar imagery from 18z shows a recent increase in
reflectivity along the wi/il border, and this could be the first
attempt at the formation of a bowing segment. isolated strong to
damaging winds appear to be the main threat, although hail could
occur in the strongest updrafts as mid-level lapse rates gradually
steepen. although watch issuance is not immediately likely, an
increase in convective coverage/intensity may warrant a severe
thunderstorm watch at some point this afternoon.

conf call notes from July 25, 2016

11:00 a.m. call

brian, kevin, and me

final draft of the survey is expected on friday, july 29, 2016.

field date is saturday, august 6, 2016.

for help, can use Fluid Surveys Support Line.

survey can be displayed in Kiosk Mode on a tablet. Kiosk Mode will store survey response data on the tablet, and then the data will be uploaded when a wifi connection is established.

For tough branching issues like with checkbox questions, few the spec for the Propel survey.

Piping is used to insert a chosen response from a previous question into the question text for the current question.

About the open-ended questions, the responses are expected to be videotaped and not recorded by typing into a large textarea box.

Total responses are expected to be around 30.
3 Sam's Club locations
10 responses at each location.

Final output data file needs to be flat ascii with a data map.

call ended at 11:37 a.m.
