...lakeshore flooding expected today into tonight...
.east-northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots will be present over the
lake today into tonight with high pressure over the eastern great
lakes and low pressure moving north into the ohio valley. this
will likely result in lakeshore flooding on the lake erie islands
and along the lake erie shoreline from toledo to vermilion. water
levels are expected to peak this afternoon and evening.

the national weather service in cleveland has issued a lakeshore
flood warning, which is in effect until 4 am edt sunday. the
lakeshore flood watch is no longer in effect.
locations...lucas, ottawa, sandusky and erie counties in ohio.
timing...until 4 am edt sunday.
lakeshore flooding...east-northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots will
result in rising water levels across the western basin of lake
erie today into tonight. as of 1 am edt, the water level at
toledo was 67 inches above low water datum and at marblehead was
65 inches above low water datum. the water level is beginning to
increase and is expected to reach at least 80 inches above low
water datum at toledo by this afternoon. water levels at
marblehead will approach 75 inches above low water datum during
this same time. in addition, wave action of 3 to 5 feet on the
western basin of lake erie will enhance the flood threat and
beach erosion. water levels will start receding late tonight but
may remain elevated into sunday.
shoreline impacts...flooding is expected along the immediate
lakeshore. beach and shoreline erosion is also possible.
rising water levels in marinas and waterways into the lake may
also submerge docks and shoreline structures.
a lakeshore flood warning is issued when flooding is occurring or
imminent along the lake. residents on or near the shore in the
warned area should take immediate action to protect life and
