Network Time Protocol on Digital Ocean Droplet

created Jan 3, 2019

I got tired of my Digital Ocean Droplet server's time being about seven minutes faster than the actual time.

The server time on my AWS EC2 server was off by 15 to 20 minutes. My code was unable to copy files to my S3 bucket because of the time diff. In December 2018, I installed ntp on my EC2 server.

Today, Jan 3, 2019, I installed ntp on my DO server.

Installed the NTP server.

apt-get install ntp

Edited the file: /etc/ntp.conf

Replaced the default ubuntu lines with:

server clock.fmt.he.net iburst
server clock.sjc.he.net iburst
server clock.nyc.he.net iburst

Restarted/started ntp:

service ntp restart

The server time is now correct.
